Healthcare IT advisor HIMSS appoints new strategy director
Former NHS England head of health and care innovation Jane Dwelly takes on role
Health service IT transformation advisor HIMSS has appointed NHS England’s former head of health and care innovation, Jane Dwelly, as its new director of strategy.
Dwelly, who has a 14-year track record of working in Whitehall, will join HIMSS in the middle of this month, and as well as being responsible for strategy, will also take on the role of delivering content for HIMSS UK’s events, including UK e-Health Week 2017.
In addition to developing the strategy for HIMSS UK, Dwelly expects to be instrumental in HIMSS quickly responding to changes in the healthcare system, as well as increasing links and partnerships with the wider health and social care economy and encouraging meaningful patient involvement in order to extend and deliver HIMSS UK’s goal of transforming healthcare through IT.
Dwelly was responsible for this week’s Innovation Expo in Manchester. She has also led communications and engagement on several profile strategies including the NHS Five Year Forward View, Personalised Health and Care 2020, genomics and the innovation agenda.
Discussing her appointment, Dwelly said: “I am excited to bring my experience of supporting and empowering teams and organisations to innovate and transform healthcare through IT. Getting this right has the potential to transform the way we care for patients, improve patient outcomes and enhance efficiencies within the NHS. Collaboration and partnerships are integral to my new role and will provide the opportunity to drive HIMSS UK forward to support our health and social care system in delivering better, safer, more efficient care for all.”
She added: “HIMSS is globally recognised as an organisation that is sharing best practice and extending networks to break down barriers in health and care IT and our NHS has valuable contributions that can be made to that.”
Stephen Bryant, managing director of HIMSS UK and HIMSS Europe said, “Strong partnerships have been, and continue to be, crucial to the success of HIMSS in the UK and across the rest of the world. The appointment of Jane Dwelly as director of strategy highlights HIMSS’ continued ambition to establish itself as a leading and trusted voice within the NHS and reinforces our collective mission to transform health and care through IT with the largest and most diverse amount of stakeholder engagement possible.”
HIMSS UK said registration is now live for UK e-Health Week, which is returning to London Olympia on May 3-4 next year.
